All being sold in the Mall Area during lunch. Come on out and support your favorite club or sport.
The WOW stem for the day/Monday is: -nomy which means law as in taxonomy (n) the science or technique of classification.
CLUB & ACTIVITY INFORMATION
BOOK STORE ~ Attention all Staff and Students ~ The book store will be closed the week of November 23rd. The book store will re-open on Monday, December 1st.
SENIORS ~ Hey North Canyon Seniors ~ Head down to the book store and pay your $25.00 GRAD FEES!!!
NORTH CANYON THEATRE COMPANY ~ North Canyon Theatre Company will present the hit musical, SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE, TODAY/November 20th and 21st. Show times are 7:00 pm today/Friday and 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Saturday. With a cast and crew of more than 60, our North Canyon stage will be filled with energy and talent. SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE features nearly 30 musical numbers, including "Stand By Me," "Hound Dog," "Jailhouse Rock," "Love
Potion #9," "On Broadway" and many more. Advance purchase general admission tickets are $5 and are available from any cast member. Be sure to get your tickets, now, since the price goes up at the door.
The AVID Club Yearbook picture will be taken on Monday, November 30 in the Lecture Hall. Come straight to the lecture hall at the beginning of lunch to get your picture taken AND then go get your lunch.
NHS ~ The National Honor Society is holding its first "Relay for Life" meeting this Tuesday, November 24th at lunch in room # 219. Come on out and see what Relay for Life is all about. Hope to see you there!
GREEN TEAM ~ Congratulations to Ms. Kolby for being the "Recycler of the Week!" Way to go Ms. Kolby's classes! Remember North Canyon - the 3 R's of Recycling: REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE! Also a reminder ~ no food items, cans or bottles in the PAPER ONLY recycle bins! Thank you North Canyon!!
TUTORING: Attention North Canyon Students ~ Are you having trouble in a few of your classes?? Come to NHS Tutoring Thursday, after school. It is completely free and our tutors can help to answer all your questions. We are available Thursday after school in the media center.
KEY CLUB ~ Hey Key Club! Don't forget there is a meeting at lunch Thursdays in Mr. Sheoran's room # 215.
SOPHOMORE CLASS ~ The sophomore class is selling twitters (tweets) where you can send your friends a special message. It will be in the December issue for the Rattler Review. Come on out to room # 168 and for $1.00, you can send a secret message to a friend!!
STUGO/NSH/RED CROSS ~ Attention North Canyon, The Food Drive will be going on until Wednesday, December 2nd. Please have a heart and donation to the Food Drive. Be the class with the most donations!!!
SOPHOMORES and JUNIORS ~ Are you interested in becoming a teacher ?? If so, please sign up for the Teacher Academy for next year ~ applications are available in room # 177.
ASIAN CULTURAL CLUB ~ The Asian Cultural Club meet at lunch Mondays in Room # 205. New members are always welcome!
RED CROSS ~ Red Cross Members ~ meet every Mondays at lunch in room #220 (Mrs. Clark's room). Tell your friends and come out to save the world!
TUTORING! ~ Attention all Freshman!! Need help in a class? Feel like your totally lost? The North Canyon Ambassadors are here to help you!! Come to freshman tutoring Mondays from 2:00pm - 3:00pm in the media center.
NHS ~ Hey North Canyon! Have you ever wanted to see one of your teachers try to rap? Well now is your opportunity because NHS is hosting the Rapping Teacher Event. The teachers participating are: Mr. Grubler, Mr. Case, Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Henzel and Mrs. Lopez. All you have to do is donate money and the teacher that collects the most money must rap! You can donate in the teachers classroom in the far labeled "Teacher Rap."
NEW CLUB ~ "CHILD HELP" ~ Help save a child's life! Come to the new club "Child Help" club meets on Wednesdays in room # 235. Please come on out and see what "Child Help" is all about!!
FAVORITE TEACHER/STAFF ~ Students ~ do you have a favorite teacher or staff member ?? Come to the triangle and nominate them each month. The box and nomination slips are placed on the front desk throughout the school year. Come support your favorite teacher or staff member!!
I GOT BOOKED: Students and Staff ~ we are continuing our "I Got Booked" program in which staff members will fill out a "I got Booked" slip for observing any student reading during non-classroom instruction hours. We will have a drawing once a month in which students are rewarded for their reading efforts. The "I Got Booked" container is in the front receptionist area. Remember North Canyon, "Read By Example."
COLLEGE AND CAREER INFORMATION
MILITARY - The Army National Guard will be here on Monday, November 23rd, from 11:30am-12:00pm to talk and answer any questions. Feel free to join SSG Spina for some pizza.
PVCC ~ This is a reminder for all sophomore students interested in the ACE program at PVCC for next year. There will be an ACE Informational meeting with PVCC during 4th hour in the Lecture Hall on Monday, November 23, 2009. You should have received a pass to attend. If you have questions, please see Ms. Bennett in the counseling office.
ASU Leadership Program: If you are a senior that will be attending ASU and you would be interested in participating in the ASU Leadership Program, please see Mrs. Bauchmoyer in the College and Career Center to be considered for the North Canyon nomination. The program includes participation in a leadership role on the ASU campus and a four year renewable scholarship for $9,000 per year. Sondell Cross, a NC 2009 graduate, is in the program and would love to have another North Canyon student join her. Candidates must have at least a 3.25 GPA, leadership experience, and plan to live on campus. Please submit a resume to Mrs. Bauchmoyer by Monday, November 23rd if you would like to be considered.
Coast Guard ~ Cadet Rachel LeClaire, a 2008 North Canyon graduate, will be in the College and Career Center on Tuesday, November 24th at 8:30AM to meet with any students interested in knowing more about attending the Coast Guard Academy.
Seniors - Remember that the priority deadline to submit an ASU application is December 1st. You will have your best chance to be considered for a merit scholarship if you complete you application on or before that date.
Financial Aid Night: There will be financial aid night presentation on Tuesday, December 1st at 6:30 PM in the Lecture Hall. There will be a speaker to talk about the FAFSA process and scholarship options. Parents and students are welcome to attend.
Transcripts for College Applications: Seniors who have completed college applications need to request their transcripts on Family Connection as the last step in the process. Please see Mrs. Bauchmoyer in the College and Career Center if you need help.
West-MEC Career and Technical Education ~ offers great programs for students to take college and technical classes during high school with no tuition fees. There are programs being offered next year for Auto Collision Industries, Automotive Technology, Cosmetology, Dental Assisting, EMT, Fire Science, and Medium Heavy Diesel Technology. Students get high school credit and there is little or no cost to the student to participate in the program. The application deadline is February 2nd, 2010. Please stop by the College and Career Center to get more information on these great oppotunities!
The SAT and ACT Method Test Prep on Family Connection is available once again!
Attention Sophomores ~ If you would like to earn college credits at PVCC during your Junior and Senior years, the ACE program may be for you. You will attend classes during the school year and summer sessions to earn college and high school credit during your junior and senior years. See your counselor for information and an application today!!! Sophomores only may apply.
