CLASS EXPECTATIONS
INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK (IN): Students are expected to keep a 3 subject spiral notebook for my class. Mead 5 Star works best for size & durability. Students will be keeping all class work in this notebook & will periodically turn it in for a notebook grade. Students will need 2 of these spirals for the year. See the IN tab under Class Stuff for more information.
TEXTBOOKS: Sometimes students will be assigned textbooks to keep at home. They are responsible for keeping their books in good condition. Lost or damaged books will receive a replacement fee at the end of the year. At school, students will use the classroom textbooks. We will be using The American Journey by Glencoe. This book has an online resource at http://glencoe.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0078653991/ . Here you can find current event sources, self-quizzes over our chapters, chapter overviews, vocabulary help, and an online edition to our book.
ACCELERATED READING BOOK: Students are responsible for having two (2) Accelerated Reading Books in their backpacks at all times. They will be required to read their book after completing quizzes and tests in all academic classes.
HOMEWORK: Students can expect homework Monday through Thursday, and some weekends. Papers that do not reflect effort and respect in appearance may not be accepted for credit. Work to be turned in must be completed in pencil, standard blue or black ink. Any other color will not be accepted. Red ink is for grading only. Work can be in print or cursive (whichever is most legible), or on a computer. If computer/printer difficulties arise, work must be done by hand and still turned in on time.
All work must follow the team standard for a proper heading in the upper right hand corner of the paper:
First & Last Name Date
Subject/Period Assignment |
All homework is due at the time it is requested. Late work will not be accepted for credit. Any homework not completed will receive a zero. Larger assignments/projects will have 10% deducted for each day it is late.
***All homework is posted on the board. It is the studentís responsibility to check this board daily and record all work in their planner. Students may also access homework via teacher websites found at http://cmweb.pvschools.net/mtmsweb/ under the Staff link. However, please be aware that assignments are subject to change; therefore be sure to check the student planner daily.
EXTRA CREDIT: There is no extra credit work to take the place of regular assignments. Students need to put forth their best effort the first time. Occasionally the opportunity for extra points for extended work or research may be given.
MAKE UP WORK: Students are responsible for any work missed during an absence. Students have one day to complete and hand in missed work for each day they were absent. Homework that was due on the day of absence is due upon the return to class as well as any tests must be taken upon return to class. It is the studentís responsibility to inquire about and make up missed work. Assignments and worksheets are located in a designated area. If students have questions regarding the material missed, it is their responsibility to ask the teacher. Again, they may also access teacher websites via http://cmweb.pvschools.net/mtmsweb/ while absent to view work missed.
If homework was requested prior or during an extended absence (more than 3 days), it is the expectation of the team teachers that the work gathered for the student will be completed upon return to class. Work not completed will receive a zero.
SERVICE LEARNING: Students are required to perform 8 hours of community service per quarter. A form is given each quarter with specific directions on how to fill out the form. All information must be written in ink, hours must be earned OUTside of school hours, and a signature is required from the adult who supervised the volunteer time. Students are requested to find activities that will help their community. Babysitting is strongly discouraged as is working within a parentís workplace. More directions will be given to the students within a few days.
Infinite Campus: Parents/Students can access grades at any time through https://ic.pvschools.net/campus/paradisevalley.jsp. Through this program, both students & parents are informed of current grades and individual assignments in all classes. If you don't have access to a computer, please ask the teacher for a grade printout.
GRADES: Grades are based on the following scale
