ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS AND EVALUATION
12345line.gif
1. All assignments must be :
        * legible - cursive handwriting is preferred ( maintaining the skill )
        * written in pen (standard blue/black) on appropriate white lined filler paper
        * properly headed according to study skill guidelines
        * legible
        * completed according to standard classroom expectations.
Assignments not meeting the above requirements will be penalized according to the degree of unacceptability.

2. Assignment not turned in on the day and time as such assignments are due unless accompanied by a phone call, email or parental note of explanation will result in a student filling out an incomplete homework assignment.  Please be advised that homework is not graded.  Homework is PRACTICE of concepts taught.  Student Incomplete Notices will be issued to the student for any work not completed.  5 notices signed by the student will result in their name being put forth for Homework Help.  Students will not be allowed to call home to ask a parent to bring a forgotten assignment or book to school.  Responsibility for one’s own work starts now.

3. A grade of 0 % will be given for any WRITING ASSIGNMENT not turned in on the day and time as such assignments are due unless accompanied by a phone call or parental note of explanation.  Students will not be allowed to call home to ask a parent to bring a forgotten assignment or book to school.  Responsibility for one’s own work starts now.

4. All final drafts of writing must be typed (double-spaced using 12 pt. font in Times New Roman) or handwritten in cursive, using standard black or blue ink only, and single-spaced. Students will be marked down for sloppy work.

5. Accelerated Reader is a vital part of your child's education. The more reading your child does, the better he/she will be at reading, thus the better at school they will become.  I devote 20 minutes of class time to reading  EVERYDAY.   Your child is ALSO expected to read a MINIMUM of 25 minutes per night EVERYNIGHT.  no exceptions, weekends included.  A daily reading log must be filled out DAILY ( that is every time you read  -THAT IS TWICE DAILY ) and must be submitted along with the TOPS report you print out. NO LOG - NO POINTS - NO EXCEPTIONS

6. It is vital for your child to attend class.  What happens in every classroom is important.  Please help your child make every effort to attend class.  Try to schedule vacations and trips to coincide with school holidays.  This will help reduce stressful situations for the student.

7. If your child is absent, he/she is responsible for making up all necessary assignments due to illness. Your student has one day for each day absent to complete the work.  Students will be held responsible for finding out what assignments were missed and turning in make-up work at the appropriate time. Absent work will be located in the individual absent work area of the room for the students to retrieve.

8. No work will be accepted in crayon, magic marker, colored pencils, or red pen unless the student has received prior consent.

9. All class work will be graded.  It is imperative, therefore, that all assignments be completed according to standards previously stated.  Too many zeros will result in a significantly lower grade.

10.Grades will be based on the following scale :
                        A = 90 - 100
                                                B = 80 - 89
                                                C = 70 - 79
                                                D = 60 - 69
                                                F =  59 or below

11. All graded assignments and tests will be returned to the students.  It is their responsibility to share their work and/or grades with you.

12. All grades are considered final in the computer unless the student can produce the  graded assignment / paper in question.

MAKEUP WORK
It is the student’s responsibility to obtain and complete missed assignments upon return from any absence. Students will have one day for each day of absence to complete work missed. Makeup homework must be requested twenty-four hours in advance from the office.

HOMEWORK
Expect your student to have daily homework. The completion of homework is the most important factor in making good grades in both middle and high school. Students who do not hand in their homework may be asked to call their parents from school. Parents can assist their students to make good grades by placing an emphasis on the importance of homework. With respect for the teachers all homework requests will be filed 24 hours after they are received when the student will be absent more than one day.

HONOR ROLL
Scholarship is recognized and encouraged through an honor roll. The honor roll is compiled at the close of each of the nine-week quarters. Honor roll is based on a student’s grade point average of all classes with a "C" or better. Student aides are graded on a pass/fail basis. The honor roll categories are as follows:
Honor Roll with High Distinction 4.0
Honor Roll with Distinction 3.70-3.99
Honor Roll 3.0-3.69
