Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome back to another school year.  I look forward to a rewarding and busy year.  I would like to take the time to review my classroom expectations, so we will all be able to have a successful semester.  The rules and procedures in this packet and listed in the school agenda will be upheld in class.  By reading and sighing these policies, you are acknowledging your awareness and acceptance to follow these policies in this classroom at all times.

Course Description:
Enrolling in English 3-4, students will be able to expand their knowledge of the subject not only in the classroom setting but also how it relates to real life situations.  We will not only be focusing on reading different genres of literature including short stories and novels but we will also be developing necessary writing skills, learning how to be an effective individual in society by working with peers.  Throughout the year we will be working on parts of speech, spelling, vocabulary, just to name a few, and much more.

Policies and Procedures:
  • Rudeness and Profanity is unacceptable in this classroom.
  • Respect yourself, but also your peers, teacher, and the learning environment.
  • Plagiarism is not allowed.
  • Water bottles are permitted.
  • Six bathroom passes will be given to you for each semester.  Please use the restroom during passing time.
  • No food, or drink (with the exception of water), and if you have gum, please put it in the trash before entering the room.
  • All final drafts must be neatly written in blue or black ink or typed.
  • Homework is there to help practice what we have learned in class and will be given when necessary.
  • Silent reading will be done throughout the year.
Materials:
Be prepared for class everyday.  The following materials are required for class each day-a notebook with paper, a pen or pencil, and assigned reading material.

Absences and Make-Up Work:
-Students are responsible for obtaining and completing the work they missed during an absence.
-Late work will be accepted, however it will be counted as 50% off for each day late.  For example if an assignment is worth 100 points and you turn it in a day late, the highest possible grade you can receive is 50 points, if you hand it in two days late the highest grade you can receive is a 25 points and so on.
Electronic Devices
-No electronic devices are allowed in the classroom at anytime.  Make sure all electronics are turned off and stored in your locker.
The school electronic device policy applies in this classroom.  Please refer to your student handbook.

Please refer to the student handbook for all rules and policies.  These rules also apply in this classroom.

Evaluation:
Grades-All written work, in-class activities, tests and other assignments hold a point value.  The point values are determined by the length and/or difficulty of the assignment.  At the end of the quarter, the total possible points are converted to the following percentage scale.
90%-100%=A
80%-89%=B
70%-79%=C
60-69%=D
Below 60%=F
-To determine your semester grade, each quarter grade will be worth 40% and your final will be worth 20%.
-Note that grades are posted on the pOGB website which is, https://nchspogb.pvusd.k12.az.us/.  In addition, I will do my best to ensure communication of your childís grades, by updating every couple of weeks.

Please return the acknowledgement form to Mr. Lombardo by Friday, August 21, 2009.
