Objectives:
Students will apply reading strategies and vocabulary development through novel study: "The Outsiders."
Students will produce a character analysis and identify the elements of literature.
Students will learn Latin/Greek stems through vocabulary development.
Students will practice and understand vocabulary words from the novel "The Outsiders."
Students will apply independent reading skills, daily.
Students will write vocabulary sentences of their own.
Students will write a summary of events, from their novel, each day.

All notes and written work in Interactive Notebooks.
HOMEWORK:
NO HOMEWORK will be assigned unless work is not finished in class.
Read for 20-30 minutes at home every night. Study spelling words. Test on Friday.

Class work is individually monitored and differentiated instruction is used, so that all students have the opportunity to be successful.
Extension activities are planned for stories and novels that will incorporate research skills and creative projects.
Homework:
Every week, starting week two, students will have spelling/vocabulary words to study for the test on Friday. Absolutely NO HOMEWORK IS GIVEN OVER THE WEEKEND OR HOLIDAYS!! :)
Students will have extension activities and projects that will be completed in class. Students will have a vocabulary unit that they complete every week.
Grades will be posted on POGB weekly.
It is the responsibility of the student to complete and turn in any missing assignments. Assignments for illness will be excused or student will be given an ample amount of time to make-up assignments.
