SEVENTH GRADE SYLLABUS
This is a 9-week course in which students will learn how to draw, paint, and design compositions. Techniques and concepts students will learn this quarter are:

  1. How to create value (shading to make the illusion of 3-D objects) in black and white.
  2. How to create the illusion of 3-D space by showing perspective.
  3. How to mix colors, create color spectrums and color schemes.
  4. How to create realistic figures in motion.
  5. How to create good designs.
  6. How to critique their own artwork and the artwork of others.
  7. How to take notes using the Cornell note-taking format.
  8. Students will learn about different artists and various art eras.

SUPPLIES; DEVELOPMENTAL WORKBOOK
Supplies students will need are:  #2 pencils with erasers, a one-subject notebook, and a good attitude.  Students will store all of the warm-ups, class notes, quizzes, preliminary art, and written work in the notebook. Notebooks will be checked at the end of every week.
10 points at the end of every other week.        

VISUAL ART PROJECTS
Students will be required to complete approximately 7 final visual art projects.  Students must be aware of deadlines and due-dates!!!!! 100 points

LATE WORK
Late work will be accepted: for each day it is late, the grade will drop one full letter grade.

HOMEWORK Students will have 4 homework assignments this quarter (students should post each assignment in their workbook).  25 points each

CRITIQUE
Students will be required to participate in 2 group critiques.  Students will be expected to talk about art as well as make art! 25 points

QUIZZES
Students will have OPEN NOTE, short -answer quizzes at the end of each unit. (5 questions)  50 points

CLASS PARTICIPATION
Students are expected to participate in all class discussions and activities.  25 points
