My 1/2 period lost the canned food drive despite bringing in close to 70 cans! Miss Lough's class beat mine again :(

Many grades were put in this weekend. Please check grades at https://vvmspogb.pvschools.net/

Personal Narrative
Several students are missing the Personal Narrative, which is the 2nd Quarter mandatory assignment. If they don't turn it, they have an F until they do.

Accelerated Reader
On Friday, I gave the students an "AR Estimation"  based upon their success so far. Reading at home is a necessity for those struggling to finish books.

This estimation grade will be deleted and replaced with another estimation in a few weeks. That 2nd estimation will also be deleted and replaced with the final AR grade.

Ultimate Spelling List
This week's spelling list is called the "Ultimate Spelling List" because it's 60 words long with the last 20 words being very difficult (atrocious, kaleidoscope).  Most students won't be learning all 60 though.  After the pretest, each student will have the goal of getting 20 better on the posttest.  This provides a challenging list for both my struggling spellers and my champion spellers.

The students score out of 20 will be how much they improve by, not how many they get correct overall. So if two students get 42/60 correct on the posttest, one could earn an A+ if they improved by 20 words and the other could fail if they only improved by 10.

My students who've been coasting with spelling will need to see that this week's list will require everyone's attention. Those top spellers will also compete to represent my class in the school spelling bee.

Parents, Many students did not finish their personal narratives last Friday. This is the mandatory 2nd quarter writing assignment that will squash their grade if not turned in. I told the students that they may turn in their narrative packet to me

If you came to conferences, I gave you a class info sheet with your student's grades and AR info. If you weren't able, I sent it home with your student on Wednesday. When the student returns it with a signature, I'll give them a 10/10 for doing so
