8th Grade Language Arts
Mrs. Carlson
May, 2010
Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to 8th Grade Language Arts. It is my privilege to have your child in my class this year. Middle school is an exciting time with many new challenges and experiences. As your child’s English teacher, I make every effort to provide a safe and stimulating learning environment to meet each child’s individual needs. In turn, students are expected to actively participate in the classroom, and in their learning and studying skills. Students are also encouraged to learn responsible behaviors and develop essential character traits.
The lesson topics, activities, assignments, and assessments for 8th grade appropriately challenge students and meet state standards for regular classes. I have tried to list all of the activities, homework assignments, and quizzes for the week. However, there may be changes to this schedule as we move through the week. Students can expect to take a variety of quizzes throughout the week (quizzes may include: spelling and vocabulary, notes in class, novels and short stories, and language arts concepts).
Please check your child’s planner daily for assignment due dates. We use the reading column in the planner to list due dates for this class. If you have any concerns or questions about your child’s educational experience in my classroom, please do not hesitate to contact me. I prefer to communicate by e-mail, and I will respond to e-mails before and after school, and during my prep period.
I look forward to an exciting year with you and your child!
