Dear Parents,
As you know, Desert Shadows has had just two sections of 5th grade this school year. This has been a concern for each of you, as well as the Desert Shadows staff, and we are happy to report that we just added an additional section to reduce class size.
Over the course of my nine years as principal, I have had to add the number of sections at a grade level several times. It is always easier for the students, than the parents. Therefore, as parents, your attitude will set the tone for success in this transition. I truly believe this is an opportunity for a better year at Desert Shadows because this will create much smaller class sizes.
Our Desert Shadows staff has worked to create great groups. We believe in developing class lists that form classrooms that are safe and optimal for every childÃs success. Teachers have worked hard to recommend ideal learning groups.
In the meantime, I am very pleased to welcome Mr. Carl Ely as our long-term substitute. Mr. Ely was a member of the Desert Springs staff for many years. Most importantly for this position, he has a Masters Degree in Elementary Education with 25 plus years teaching experience. As a parent, and teacher he has the experience and care to help your children thrive in this 5th grade classroom.
My goal is to recruit and hire a great teacher for your child and a terrific addition to our team. The position was posted today and will close on 10/19/09. I will work with our current grade level team to select an outstanding teacher. During this search, your child will continue to be academically challenged and nurtured. Hiring a new teacher to Desert Shadows is one of the most important decisions I make as principal.
As more information develops, I will update you promptly. Thank you in advance for your understanding, patience, and positive attitude! Together, we will make this a smooth and positive experience for your child.
Sincerely,
Richard McCormick
Principal
