DEAR PARENTS, Back for another week! We took AIMS practice tests last week, and we will spend a good portion of this week on the areas most of us had trouble with. The test was not as scary as we thought. The AZ department of education website has the tests if you want to see them or practice questions at home! Also, doing study island will give kids a confidence boost for AIMS! The test is coming soon! This week, math is going to be all about fractions! We will learn numerator and denominator, practice ordering fractions, do word problems, and get lots of time to play with manipulatives in order to understand fractions. We will draw many pictures too. Miss A has a fun fractions pizza game we can try. In science, we are now done with ear and sound! We had so much fun acting out the parts of the ear! We are moving into the plant world now! We will learn about roots, stems, leaves, and flowers. What are their jobs?
We'll compare life cycles of different plant types, and explore how growth, death, and decay are part of the plant life cycle. We are going to try to grow a plant as well! We now are reading, "The Starving Time" for social studies. It is the sequel to "Elizabeth's Diary". This week we are not doing as much colony work, but we will continue more next week. This week we will continue to practice prefixes, suffixes, and root words. We will get into contractions, like don't and
can't, also. We will review all of our comprehension strategies by reading short passages and evaluating the characters, plot, cause and effect, problem and solution, etc... If you have any questions on getting ready for AIMS, let Miss A. know! We will continue to practice test taking strategies in class. Don't forget - study island should be getting done!!!! SINCERELY, MISS A'S KIDS
P.S. It's about that time when our class is running low on tissues, pencils, cap erasers, Clorox wipes, hand soap, and hand sanitizer! Any donations would be greatly appreciated if possible! Thank you ahead of time to those able to help keep our class running smoothly! Thanks to those who have donated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
