MERCURY MINE
PHYSICAL EDUCATION

_______________________________________________________________________
Mercury Mine follows the Paradise Valley District's Physical Education standards and scope and sequence of developmental skills and activities to promote health related fitness, lifetime activities and social skills.

Each grade level participates in physical fitness, body management skills, fundamentals of movement, sports related skills and recreational activities.

Special to Mercury Mine is our rock climbing wall. Climbing games and contests make it fun while learning the skills of balance and agility. Our indoor, air-conditioned room dedicated to PE also has climbing ropes where strength and endurance are accomplished through climbing and swinging games and contests. Our rock wall and rope activities help students set personal goals and improve self esteem and confidence.

Every year our students participate in Field Day.  Primary grades have a "Fun Day" of non-competitive events. Each student performs activities and receives ribbons for their accomplishments. Our 6th grade students develop their leadership skills by running this event for the Primary grades.

Intermediate grades have a competitive Field Day where track and field events are performed for ribbons. Students that place first at Mercury Mine's track and field events are invited to participate at our District's Track and Field Day.

Mercury Mine students enjoy P.E. because the emphasis is on fun, trying, sportsmanship and team work. Their class motto is "The more I practice... the better I become"!
