During this year long class students in Show Choir will be preparing for their holiday and spring Concerts.

Each week students receive their participation points and Typically Monday afternoons pOGB is updated.

Student absences- If a student is absent from class, they should check with me to see if anything was handed out. There is no make up work to do but they are still required to take any previously announced tests.

All music is taught during the first Two months of class (August, September in the fall and January, February in the spring) During this time, in addition to learning their music, students are memorizing their choral creed and reciting
it in front of the class for a grade.

They are also practicing clapping examples and learning to sight sing.
Plus, we are reviewing for their Signs and Symbols Test.
(They have already received a review sheet).

Show Choir is then broken into groups to create choreography for their assigned song. They are given at least 10 full class periods. They are graded on how well their movements fit the style of the song, if everyone cooperated with each other, and if they finished it within the time given. I change parts of every groups product to help make transitions smoothly if necessary.

Attendance is critical during this time.

After they are finished, they perform in front of the rest of the class for a group grade. Then I teach them choreography for other songs if necessary and we have solo auditions.

After the concert, we watch the video of the evening concert and then we have a week of solos in class. Students can attend an outside concert to earn these points if they choose not to sing a solo.

Solo info:

Each student is encouraged to perform a solo in front
of the class for a grade. It should be approximately
2-3 minutes in length. It can not include any
inappropriate situations or language. A sheet will be
given to each student one month before the end of the
semester with detailed guidelines regarding the singing
solo requirement. Students can choose their own song
(within the guidelines) or sing one of the songs from
our concert.

It is fine if students bring in a CD with the singer singing on it to
sing along with.

Outside Concert Info:

A sheet will be sent home about a month before the end of the semester with detailed guidelines on the outside concert. There will also be a list of outside concerts within our district that they can go to.

Students can earn their 50 points by attending a live
concert and turning in a program (which will be
returned) that is signed by the parent verifying their
attendance AND completing a detailed critical
evaluation or review of the concert. (must be one
typed page single spaced in length, with times new
roman font only- size 12)You do not have to purchase a
program- a signed ticket or note from a parent will be
an acceptable substitute. Make sure and attach the
ticket or program to the review. The concert can be any
live performance dated during the semester the student
has chorus. It can be any concert performed by a High
School, College, Church or professional group. The
requirement is that the student be an audience member
not a participant, and there be singing involved. In
the past, students have attended concerts at ASU to see
the Choral Union concert, at Gammage to see Phantom of
the Opera, and at America West Arena to see a rock and
roll group.

If you have a question about whether the concert is appropriate, or have any questions or concerns at all, please do not hesitate to email
me or give me a call.
