Monday, 3/15
In class: 1. Handout: Editor-in-Chief #1 (forever known as EIC); discuss. 2. Introduction to The Odyssey: Great Books Video.
Homework: Complete EIC #1.
Tuesday, 3/16
In class: 1. Grade EIC #1. 2. Read the introduction to The Odyssey on pp. 887-893 in your textbook. Assignment: Create your own study guide (with definition and/or examples for the following terms/people to use as a
guide throughout the readings: Trojan War, Athena, epic poem, epic hero, epic simile, epithet, Calypso, Alcinous, Laertes, Circe, Zeus, Cicones, Lotus Eaters, Cyclops/Cyclops, Apollo, Poseidon, Aeolus, Laestrygones, Eurylochus, Hermes, Persephone, Tiresias, Sirens, Scylla, Charybdis, Helios, Antinous, Eurymachus, Telemachus, Eumaeus, Philoetius, and Eurycleia, and in medias res (I'll give you this one; it means in the middle of things).
Homework: 1. Finish study guide from today. 2. Finish finding the errors in EIC #1.
Wednesday, 3/17
In class: 1. Collect study guides. 2. Handout: Odyssey packet. 3. Read Books 1 and 9 (pp. 895-913) in the orange text. 4. Assignment: complete the Timeline and handout on Book 9: The Epic Hero in your packet; be sure to answer the question at the bottom as well!
Homework: If necessary, complete today's work.
Thursday, 3/18
In class: 1. Discuss and view Books 1 and 9. 2. Finish grading EIC #2. 3. Handout: EIC #2; begin.
Homework: 1. Finish EIC #2. 2. Study for tomorrow's quiz over Books 1 and 9.
Friday, 3/19
In class: 1. Quiz: Books 1 and 9. 2. Grade EIC #2. 3. Read Book 10 (pp. 916-925). 4. Assignment: In your Odyssey packet, complete the Timeline and handout on Book 10: Epithets and Epic Similes (you need at least four (4) epithets for Odysseus and two (2) epithets for Circe); do not forget to complete the follow-up question on the bottom in complete sentences.
Homework: If necessary, complete today's work.
