Welcome to 8th Grade Social Studies
Summer is over and now it's time to get back to school. Quite honestly, time starts to pass faster as you get older. Eighth grade is a turning point, you will be in high school in a blink of the eye. In Social Studies we will be covering a vast amount of information. And, this is information you will find that is applicable to your life in many ways. How you may ask??? That is what we will be discovering throughout the year.
Class expectations are that you will be an active listener, follow directions, be positive, be prompt and attend school daily, follow through with assignments, and be the best you can be. We will be practicing these workplace skills to help prepare you for your future.
The ABC discipline plan is followed. All students are expected to respect the learning and safety of others.
The curriculum covered during this year of Social Studies is Civics, and history covering from Pearl Harbor to the present day.
The grading scale is as follows:
A 90-100 %
B 80 - 89 %
C 70 - 79 %
D 60 - 69 %
Grades are weighted as follows:
Daily Work 40%
Tests & Quizzes 30%
Projects 30%
The philosophy is that students do the daily work and this gives them a solid A or B base. The tests and quizzes and projects reveal how they use the information learned in their daily work. Everyone has an opportunity to get a grade.
I look forward to a great year with all of my students. I am in this business because I enjoy working with this age group. Please do not hesitate to contact me so as a team --student, parent and teacher---your school year will be one in which you have learned about yourself, others and how you will find your place in this global world we live in.
Respectfully,
Cindy Lively
