 Reading
We read a variety of genres and forms in 7th grade English. All students will read a class novel each quarter; Honors classes will also read a Shakespeare play and additional classic novel. The Lessons and Assignments page will inform you of our current novel and reading projects.
I expect students to have a DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) book at all times. This is a book they have selected for silent, independent reading which we call DEAR Time, held for 20 mins. each Tuesday and Thursday.
Students are expected to read independently at least 90 minutes per week, and to record a summary of weekly reading in their English notebook. In addition to those in the VVMS Media Center, hundreds of books are available in my classroom.
Instead of traditional book reports, students have a variety of culminating projects from which to choose after we complete a class novel.
