PPES Library is open every morning at 8:30
(except on faculty meeting dates)
and closes every day at 3:30.
Our outstanding collection of over 18,000 titles include: picture books; beginning readers; intermediate chapter books; reference materials; and non-fiction topic books for grades K~ 6th.
Over 9,400 of our titles are AR-leveled, and have accompanying quizzes!
In addition, teachers have access to a variety of professional books and videos to enhance classroom instruction.
Core Knowledge
As a Core Knowledge school, our library focuses the non-fiction collection on curriculum topics covered in all grade levels.
Accelerated Reader
One of many language arts tools implemented at PPES to promote achievement in reading is Accelerated Reader (AR), created and offered by Renaissance Learning. AR establishes a student’s reading level via the STAR test, taken on the library’s computers. The STAR test is administered at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year. This assists students, teachers, and librarians in selecting appropriate books within the students’ reading range. All AR books are designated a reading level, and have an accompanying computer-based quiz. The AR quiz measures reading comprehension on the finished book. Teachers at PPES have the option of including AR in their language arts grade, based either on number of books read, or points earned, each quarter. Beginning Spring
Semester 2007, all AR student records and test-taking is web-based, and protected by individual passwords.
Parents can establish their own username and password, and review their student records at any time.
Library Classes
Library is one of five special area classes that students attend weekly, for forty minutes. Ms. Kapla focuses class time on the following areas of instruction:

Book reviews/Book Talks (teacher and student)
Collaboration on classroom assignments
