Previous Site Visits...

First visit: Explorer Middle School of Technology, Administrators, teachers, and technology specialists visited and toured Explorer's new signature program, School of Technology. The school's use of technology was showcased in every classroom on campus. Visitors learned about the school's Generation YES program, Digital Imaging and Web Page Design Class, and how Explorer uses technology to engage students in learning. Students presented Power Point Presentations, original Garage Band musical compositions, Smart Board lessons, and they featured the school's new web page and AMLA's web page, all created by students in the Digital Imaging and Web Page Design Class. Bob Becke, Explorer's Generation YES and Digital Imaging & Web Page Design teacher shared his students accomplishments, and Chuck Wilson, Applied Technology teacher, highlighted key components of his programs. Explorer principal, Marianne Bursi, highlighted how the school uses Study Island, Accelerated Reader, Beyond Books, TeenBiz 3000, and KidBiz 3000 with its math, English, science, and social studies curriculum.

Second visit: Cocopah Middle School, Administrators and teachers visited the campus and listened to presentations made by principal, Dr. Tere Peterson and student council members Meryl, Jane, Collin and Jonathan. Students served as tour guides and gave the visitors an overview of the school and ongoing special programs. Some of those programs were "Where Everyone Belongs" and "Leadership and Character Building through Reading and Writing" Students Julie, Bryce, and Tatum, along with Tech Lab teacher, Louise Bunker, presented the benefits of having PASS (Partners Advancing Student Success) business partnerships in the classrooms. The Artist in Residence Graphic Art and Advertising Program was an integral part of the Tech Lab's curriculum last semester. Counselors Ivy Chemodurow, June Solod, and Judy Shaw led a lively discussion on the services they provide to the school. Carolyn Munhall and representatives from various service learning organizations related how important it is for students to be a part of their community.
