Parent Access to Accelerated Reading Reports

One of the best ways to help your child learn is to be an informed parent. Accelerated Reader provides you with online parent access to view your child’s reading information.

Parents can only view the following “read only” reports.
• Renaissance Place
• Accelerated Reader
• STAR Reading

To view your child’s AR reading information go to Renaissance Home Connect, and log on with your child’s student user name and external password.

Accelerated Reader at Explorer

Explorer Middle School uses the highly successful Accelerated Reader (AR) program to help students improve and increase their reading skills. Participation in the AR program is required and is an integral part of the English department curriculum.

The AR program is designed to motivate, monitor and manage students’ reading with computer based comprehension tests that are administered when students finish reading self selected books.

The AR program measures the quality, quantity and level of reading and provides information back to students, teachers and parents through a variety of reports. These reports are used for identifying strengths and weaknesses in reading.

All students begin the program by taking a placement test to determine a starting point for their reading regardless of whether or not they have participated in the program previously.

Following the placement test, teachers assist students in setting meaningful and realistic reading goals. Students are able to select books for which there is a Reading Practice quiz available. After students have read a book within their tested “zone” they take a computer generated quiz about the book they have read. The quiz results are added to the AR program database and reports can be generated for the students, teachers and parents.

Questions about the Accelerated Reading program can be directed to any English teacher or to the librarian in the library media center.
