A bit more about me

My life started in Wichita, Kansas.  My father's job moved us around for three years, and then, in 1966, we settled in Phoenix, Arizona.  I grew up in the Paradise Valley school system, going to elementary school at Cholla Elementary (now Cholla Complex) and Roadrunner school.  Then going to middle school at Shea, and high school at Shadow Mountain.  I graduated from high school in 1981, and started at Arizona State University that fall.  (GO Sun Devils!!)images-5.jpg  I graduated from ASU in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in Business Finance and Portfolio Management.

Shortly after graduation, I married my girlfriend of five years.  Within the year, we opened a sandwich deli in West Phoenix called "Palate Pleasers Deli & Catering".  It was near the ASU West campus.  That kept us busy for eight years, and in 1994 my son was born.

I decided to go back to school and get my teaching certificate.  I went to Ottawa University during the day, and waited tables at night.  I finished the schooling, and did my student teaching at Quail Run Elementary School.  My daughter was born during that student teaching experience.

My first job teaching was on the west side of town with the Pendergast School District, in the 5th grade.  After four years of teaching there, 1997-2000, the family moved back into the Paradise Valley District area.  That next school year, 2001-2002, I was hired at Echo Mountain.  I have been teaching the 6th grade or the 5th grade here since, outside of the 2008-2009 year, when I was a math specialist.  I received my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership in 2004, from Northern Arizona University.  images.jpg (Go Lumberjacks!!)   This year makes my ninth year on this campus.

I have seen many changes since starting at the Mountain.  The school split into two, principals, teachers and staff have come and gone, and a new office space has been built.  The one consistent thing here at Echo Mountain is the desire and commitment to deliver the best, and most comprehensive education to our students.  I am very proud to be part of this team, and look forward to another successful year at the Mountain.
