Educational Ethos:

At Whispering Wind, we embrace an educational ethos we call our Performance Triangles.  We have a design for educators, faculty and parents, and a design for students.

Educators and Adults                                                              Students

We will establish equally rigorous program in Academics, Personal Character and Work Ethics.

Academy Goals:

  • Provide a safe and orderly learning environment
  • Establish a climate of high expectations for success
  • Maintain instructional leadership with a clear and focused mission
  • Provide opportunities for learning with active, direct instruction, while conducting frequent monitoring of student performance
  • Establish active home-school partnerships

Academics

  • Reading, Writing and Mathematics

Foundation”

  • All students will learn to Read, Write and manipulate math by the end of 3rd grade.  We expect all students to be proficient in reading the written word, expressing themselves in writing and accurately understanding foundational mathematics.

“Literacy”

  • With this “Foundation”, all students grades 4-6 will advance their Reading and Writing with an emphasis on Comprehension, understanding areas of Science, Social Studies and Mathematics with a major focus of S.T.E.M.G.2 Design.

Global Awareness

  • We believe it is important to prepare our students to be a more globally literate citizen for the 21st Century.
  • Global Partnership: We welcome an educational partnership with an elementary school in Beijing, China. – Qi Yi Primary School
  • We will:
    • Expose each other’s staff and students to each others language
    • Provide opportunities for communication between teachers and students
    • Advance World Language and Literacy
    • Apply Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
    • Advance cultural awareness inclusive of the Arts

World Language
  • Beginning with 2008-2009, all students K-6 will be exposed to a World Language: Chinese-Mandarin.
  • We will have opportunities to apply our new language as we communicate with our sister school: Qi Yi Primary School in Beijing, China.

Character

  • A corner of our Performance Triangle is Personal Character.
  • We embrace and deliver four rigorous programs that establish and optimize Personal Character.
    • “Character Counts” embraces six Pillars of Character
    • “Olewus” – This program compliments our Character Counts attending to addressing anti-social/bullying.

Work Ethic

  • A corner of our Performance Triangle is Work Ethic.  We embrace and deliver a rigorous program that models a Work Ethic maximizing acquisition of learning at appropriate levels.

Achievements:

  • “Character Counts” school for the past ten years
  • “WWE CARE” program designed to meet academic, social and emotional students in need
  • Classes for students to improve self-health and self-esteem and to learn how to solve problems peacefully
