Student Policies

School Wide Tardy Policy

Students are tardy if they are not in their seat or engaged in an appropriate activity at the bell.

Tardies accumulate for a semester.

All Period 1 tardies report to the office.

- First offense: A verbal warning will be given to the student.

- Second offense: Teacher will telephone parent or guardian.

- Third offense: Student will receive a referral to the office.

Food and Beverage Policy

Vista Verde Middle School has a policy of no gum, food, candy, or beverages (other than water) beyond the common area. While the students are in the classroom, it is expected they will adhere to this policy.

Offenses accumulate for a semester.

Any student not adhering to this policy will meet with the following consequences:

- First offense: A verbal warning will be given to the student.

- Second offense: Teacher will telephone parent or guardian.

- Third offense: Student will receive a referral to the office.

Discipline Policy

The following actions will be taken when a student has not respected the learning or safety of others.

Offenses accumulate for a semester.

Action 1:

- First offense in One class period:
Isolation (student is isolated within classroom to reflect on behavior).
If a team determines that a student has excessive isolations, a separate contract may be designed specifically for that student.

- Second offense in same class period:
Buddy Removal (student sent to buddy teacher; Buddy form is used).
At the end of class student is permitted to go to next hour class.

Action 2:

- First offense in One class period:
Isolation (student is isolated within classroom to reflect on behavior).


- Second offense in same class period:
Buddy Removal (student sent to buddy teacher; Buddy form is used; phone call to parent). At the end of class student is permitted to go to next hour class.

Action 3:

- First offense in One class period:
Isolation (student is isolated within classroom to reflect on behavior).


- Second offense in same class period:
SAC (Student Assistance Center) student is sent to the SAC room with a buddy form filled out for three buddy teacher removals. Student must remain in SAC room until parent is notified and comes to Vista Verde for a conference with the staff member and student. The goal at this conference is to help the student correct his/her inappropriate behavior.

If the parent has still not come in to have the necessary conference after two days, the child will be sent home and will remain at home until the parent agrees to come to Vista Verde.
