This
is the year that our boys and girls experience the
history of our State. It starts with the very first
inhabitants that hunted roaming mammoths, our time
as New Spain, why we were fought for and then bought
by the U.S. Government when we were a territory and
why we became a State. We study our Indian and Spanish
roots as well as the Wild West Cowboy era.
Along with history, we study Arizona animals and
learn authentic research methods. That is carried further by making a presentation of our findings and taking an all day field trip experience to the Phoenix Zoo.
We study Arizona Government as well as the structure
of our Federal Government and finish with a trip
to the State Capitol. This along with several museum
trips as well as historical enactment speakers make
our history vital and living.
In science, we have units of student about animals,
electricity, magnets and weather. Hands on experiments
enrich our learning.
Our reading is progressing from the decoding and
on to the enrichment stage. We have recently introduced
the Accelerated Reading program which challenges
all of our readers at their independent reading levels.
We do a lot of creative writing that enhances the
language and spelling programs.
The fourth grade program challenges and stretches
our learners taking them from the primary foundations
and setting them firmly in the intermediate program. |
