Fifth
grade's overall philosophy is to develop a partnership
between the home and school in order to ensure
the success of every student (re: homework assignments
and character development). Focus is placed on
the academic and social achievement of every child.
Individual and group work is encouraged in fifth
grade (i.e., state report projects and co-operative
group science investigations). Specific academic
guidelines follow Arizona state's standards: math
— using whole numbers and decimals, algebra, graphing
data, multiplying, dividing whole numbers and decimals,
number theory , fractions, measurement, ratio,
percent and probability work.
Writing activities
are based on the 6 traits format in coincidence
with state guidelines. Reading activities include
a variety of strategies to increase comprehension
skills. Students will evaluate a wide variety of
literature texts including fiction, nonfiction,
classic, and contemporary works. Specific text
titles are available, for parents, to help develop
their child's reading skills at home. Various reading
programs are incorporated within the curriculum
to help stimulate the child's love of books. |
