Mission
Sonoran Sky Elementary is a dynamic, forward-moving community of lifelong learners who work together to establish a safe, child-centered environment where each individual discovers his/her own area of giftedness while achieving maximum success. All learning has relevance to life and prepares students for productive citizenship by promoting problem solving, teamwork, responsibility and personal accountability, self-esteem and mutual respect. This supportive and challenging atmosphere provides a place where imaginations are ignited and dreams take flight.
Sonoran Sky School Philosophy
Sonoran Sky Elementary's mission to encourage educational excellence is aided by a “team” approach to grade level and program planning and implementation. Our highly skilled staff work together to develop an integrated curriculum that is relevant, active and motivational. Hands-on, authentic learning experiences (i.e. field trips, simulations, and guest speakers), a highly integrated curriculum , and the use of cooperative learning structures in the classroom bring learning to life for our students. Teachers also incorporate student choice into their curriculum to further enhance student learning.
A child-centered philosophy is utilized to promote student learning in all of the grade levels and forms the foundation for all instructional delivery. Eight Intelligences research and practices are also used as our staff works with parents to discover each child's special abilities and nurture success in those areas. Frequent and on-going parent communication is always emphasized and encouraged.
In addition, each year a school-wide theme, with appropriate programs and activities, promotes school unity and a sense of community. The use of the Make Your Day Citizenship Program promotes student responsibility and teaches appropriate conflict resolution skills across the grade levels. A variety of diversity programs, including the use of “A Classroom of Difference,” promote acceptance and tolerance for others. Prevention programs and the district's Character Education Program also play a role in building personal self-esteem and important interpersonal skills.
