What led you to become a School Nurse: I loved the practice of nursing as it relates to children and enjoy the educational component as it relates to school nursing. Being around young children always recharges my "emotional batteries" and brings me joy.

How would you describe your teaching style and philosophy, your beliefs about how studens learn best, your goals in the classroom: I believe healthy children are the best learners and it's my goal to keep Sonoran Sky students the healthiest and safest in the state of Arizona! I enjoy doing health education lessons when given the opportunity because children are enthusiastic learners about their own body and personal health.

"Welcome to the Sonoran Sky Health Office!"

I am privileged to be a part of your family's health team and respect the trust that you give me in the care of your children at school.

This website will highlight some of the areas that have specific guidelines. I would like to keep open lines of communication to any questions or concerns that you may have regarding your child's health and safety.

Our school health program has several comprehensive goals:

•  To effectively deal with acute illness and accidents that occur at school.

•  To provide mandated screening and immunization monitoring.

•  To provide a system of identifying health problems that may impact the learning process and to accommodate for them.

•  To provide comprehensive and appropriate health education.

•  To provide a healthful and safe school environment.

Special Health Needs

It is imperative to notify the nurse immediately if your child has any chronic health conditions such as, diabetes, allergies, asthma, heart disease or any physical or mental disability so that the appropriate accommodations can be made to serve your child and optimize their learning.

If your child has an acute medical problem, which may, need my attention or treatment please notify me before he/she attends school the first day. A written parent note will authorize a child to be excluded from PE for up to 3 days. Longer exclusions will require a written doctor's excuse.

Illness /Emergency Guidelines

School is a place for healthy children and it is important to reduce communicable disease by not sending your child to school if any of these conditions exist:

Fever, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, deep persistent cough, yellow/green nasal discharge. Or……… Any known communicable diseases, such as “strep” throat, pink-eye, chicken pox, etc.

If you are unsure, please feel free to call me before sending your child to school. Your child should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. Children are not permitted to go home unaccompanied by a designated adult when ill or injured at school. Please be sure that your emergency numbers are always current!

District Medication Policy

When it is necessary for a child to take medication during school hours the following is required:

•  Prescription medication must be in the original pharmacy labeled container.

•  Written permission from the parent/guardian to administer the Rx.

•  An adult needs to bring the Rx to school and pick up any remaining medication.

•  Inhalers are kept in the health office and not carried by the student unless there is a written doctor's order.

•  Medications brought to school without the above conditions being met will be kept in a locked cabinet until picked up by the parent.
