Sonoran Sky Elementary was opened in the fall of 1994 to service the families of Paradise Valley School District's most eastern boundaries.

Sonoran Sky is one of 29 elementary schools in the district and it currently offers Kindergarten through 6th grade classes to more than 500 students.

Sonoran Sky has established an impressive record of accomplishments since its inception. Some of the recent accomplishments achieved by students and staff include:

* Received A+ designation from the Arizona Educational Foundation, April 2004

* Rated as an “excelling” school in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 by the Arizona Department of Education

* Student scores consistently exceed district, state and national averages on  achievement tests

* 17 Winners in District Poetry Contest, 1 State Poetry Semifinalist, and * 2 State Poetry Winners

* 19 District Art Winners

* 75 State Winners in Grand Canyon State Games Essay Contest

* 11 District Winners in District Writing Contest

* Presidential Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teacher of the Year (1996, 1999, 2001)

* 3 National Board Certified Teachers, including First in Arizona

* 19 Teacher Venture Grant Winners

*In 2004, Sonoran Sky students spoke via ham radio with the astronauts aboard the International Space Station via the school's ham radio station, KA7SKY.
