Greg Martin Principal |
I am in my eighth year as the principal at Sunrise Middle School. Some of the accomplishments during my tenure include Sunrise being recognized as an excelling school for five consecutive years, the expansion of the language arts program to a 90- minute block for each student, the completion and implementation of a comprehensive five-year long range plan, and the expansion of student recognition programs. Most recently, I was recognized as a 2007 inductee into the “Circle of Honor,” an award sponsored by the Arizona Department of Education, which recognizes the top 1% of principals in the state of Arizona. Prior to joining the Sunrise team, I served as the principal at Foothills Elementary School within the Paradise Valley Unified School District. I also served as an assistant principal in the Peoria Unified School District and a middle and high school teacher and coach. I am a graduate of the University of Arizona with a degree in Political Science, and have a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. |
ELAINE MURRAY Assistant Principal |
I have 16 years of teaching experience with the Paradise Valley Unified School District. I hold a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University along with a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Arizona State University. I was also honored as A.M.L.A. Teacher of the Year in 2007. This will be my seventh year at Sunrise. In 2002, I joined the staff here as a seventh grade English teacher and soon became the department chair. In my career I have taught special education, technology, 6th grade (focus on social studies), 3rd grade, 7th grade math and art as well as being a staff trainer for various topics. Last year I worked as the assistant principal at Cactus View Elementary in PVUSD and this year proudly return home to Sunrise as the assistant principal. Some of my accomplishments at Sunrise are as follows: assisting in the design and implementation of the block English program, working closely with the student advisor, Ms. Johnson, in bringing the Not My Kid program to Sunrise students, and helping and guiding the students to beautify the campus with benches, tables and a mural. Working with and seeing students mature and expand their skills has always been the most fulfilling part of my career. Please don't hesitate to call if I can be of assistance. |
