I believe it is time for our district to take
a bold step and tell parents and students that,
if they fulfill certain commitments and we fulfill
certain commitments, we can guarantee achievement
for every student.
The Governing Board recently
adopted the Fulfilling
the Promise for Individual Excellence Guarantee. Before school ended, I
asked all employees to take it to heart and fulfill
the promise we have made to our students.
Fulfilling the Promise for Individual Excellence
Guarantee
School Commitment — As members of this
community, we will:
- treat every child with dignity and respect
- believe
that every child can be successful
- acknowledge
that parents are vital to the success of the
school and each child
- provide learning experiences
appropriate to the child’s needs
- provide
meaningful homework assignments to reinforce
and extend learning
- provide effective two-way
communication tools between school and home
Parent Commitment — As a member of this
community, I will:
- send my child to school regularly and on
time
- attend school functions and a minimum of
one parent conference per year
- expect my child
to be responsible for his/her behavior
- regularly
monitor my child’s school progress
- participate
in two-way communication with the school
- respect
the school, staff and families
Student Commitment — As a member of
this community, I will:
- arrive at school and each class on time every
day unless I am ill
- come to school ready to
learn and work hard
- obey the school and bus
rules
- be responsible for completing my daily
assignments and homework
- participate in after-school
tutoring, if requested
PVUSD believes if a student in grades K – 12
meets the following:
- is enrolled within the first 10 days of the
school year
- maintains a 95 percent daily attendance
rate
- completes all assignments and homework
to the best of his/her ability, and
- follows
school and bus rules with no discipline consequences
beyond a
home/school conference,
the student will, at
the minimum, Meet the Standards (or achieve
one year’s growth)
in Math, Reading and Writing on the state AIMS
test. If that is not achieved, PVUSD will offer
free, additional extended learning opportunities
to reach AIMS proficiency that may include
after-school tutoring, academic intervention
and/or summer school. |
