The
Arizona Department of Education (ADE) has again awarded Excelling
labels to 23 PVUSD schools, a gain of five over two years
ago. This accomplishment means that the Paradise Valley
District is one of the top performing in the state. Just
three years ago, there were only seven Excelling schools
in the district.
This year, the PVUSD again has eight schools labeled Highly
Performing, seven receiving the designation of Performing
Plus, and seven called Performing. Dr. John Kriekard, superintendent,
has or will attend staff meetings at all 23 Excelling schools,
handing out lapel pins that say “Excelling,” to
recognize the achievement of
the highest label possible.
“I am so proud of our teachers,
support staff and principals for their leadership in the
area of student achievement, which is always our highest
goal,” he
said. “And of course, we
also appreciate the efforts of our students and their parents
for taking learning seriously,” Dr.
Kriekard added. The ADE annually ranks schools based on their
students’ scores
on state tests, graduation and drop out rates.
Excelling schools include Boulder Creek, Copper
Canyon, Desert Shadows Elementary, Desert Shadows Middle,
Desert Springs, Desert Trails, Explorer, Grayhawk, Horizon,
Larkspur, Liberty, Mercury Mine, Mountain Trail, North
Ranch, Pinnacle, Pinnacle Peak, Quail Run, Sandpiper, Shadow
Mountain, Sonoran Sky, Sunrise, Whispering Wind and Wildfire.
Highly Performing schools are Cactus View, Desert
Cove, Eagle Ridge, Hidden Hills, North Canyon, Paradise
Valley, Shea and Village Vista.
Performing Plus schools include Aire Libre, Arrowhead,
Campo Bello, Foothills, Indian Bend, Palomino Elementary,
Sunset Canyon and Vista Verde.
Performing schools are Echo Mountain Primary, Echo
Mountain Intermediate, Greenway, Palomino II, Polaris and
