Structured English Immersion Program (SEI)
The Structured English Immersion Program in the Paradise Valley Unified School District serves the needs of students from diverse language backgrounds working to develop English proficiency for academic success. Students qualify for SEI services on the State-adopted English language proficiency test. Annual English proficiency tests indicate placement in the appropriate class level.

Arizona English Language Proficiency Standards form the foundation of skills for this coursework. Through the Structured English Immersion (SEI) program, English Language Learners acquire speaking, listening, reading, writing and academic skills. This carefully designed approach provides both intensive English language development through ESL English offerings and sheltered content instruction.

The English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at the high school level earn students English credit toward graduation while SEI content course selections earn the corresponding credit for that area of study (for example, math, science, etc.). If testing dictates, students can repeat ESL courses for credit.

The educational support provided by the SEI program gives students the advantage of gaining strong English skills needed for success in mainstream classes and continued academic achievement.
