| The
Paradise Valley Unified School District has added an International
Baccalaureate Middle Years Program at Vista Verde
MIddle School. This is one of the first Arizona schools to
have an IB seventh-grade class. The International Baccalaureate
Organization (IBO) is a non-profit educational foundation
based in Geneva, Switzerland. The IBO offers a Primary Years
Program (PYP) for elementary children, a Middle Years Program
(MYP) for students ages 11-16, and a Diploma Program for
juniors and seniors in high school. The IBO has authorized
over 1300 schools in 110 countries.
The IB Middle Years Program encompasses seventh- through
tenth-grade, beginning at Vista Verde and transitioning
to North Canyon High School.
The Middle Years Program embraces traditional school subjects and all the Arizona state standards; however, it emphasizes the interrelatedness of those subjects and advances a “holistic” view of learning. Other highlights of this program are its emphasis on intercultural awareness, communication, creativity, community service, and independent thinking. The four-year curriculum will include the study of English, an additional modern language, humanities (history and geography), science, mathematics, arts, physical education and technology.
This program is open to all PVUSD sixth- and seventh-grade
students, as well as those outside of the PVUSD through Open
Enrollment. Please inform any friends who are parents of
sixth- and seventh-graders and may be interested is this
program.
