Sixth Grade
In sixth grade at Quail Run, students are exposed to many different
and exciting subjects. During Social Studies, students
study the impact of Ancient Civilizations on modern society,
which includes a field trip to the Renaissance Festival. Science
includes: oceans, weather, cells (human body), and creating a
Science Fair Project. In Reading we do Literature Circles. We
read novels, biographies and several other pieces of literature
that support the various themes established throughout the year
while focusing on comprehension of fiction and non-fiction pieces
of work. Writing includes poetry, essays, expository and narrative
pieces, and the development of power point presentations. Math
includes instruction in Geometry, Algebra, and the application
of math to real world situations. We use Excel math as
a supplement to the district curriculum.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in Junior
Achievement’s BizTown. Biztown is a nationally recognized,
innovative learning program that provides our students with an
understanding of basic economic concepts and consumer skills
they will use as adults. Through in-class instruction and
the real-world simulation provided by Junior Achievement, students
learn first hand what it takes to create a business, produce
a newspaper, supervise employees, hold an elected office, and
personally earn and manage money.
Our curriculum is directed toward student mastery of grade-level
state standards, developing life skills along the way. Our
primary goal is to promote academic excellence and to provide
a variety of strategies to help students succeed.
