What is Rigor?
Rigor is a process of “helping students develop the capacity to understand content that is complex, ambiguous, provocative and personally or emotionally challenging.” (excerpt from Rigor is not a Four-Letter Word.)
Rigor provides quality of thinking, not quantity, and requires effort. It involves deep immersion in a subject and should include real-world settings and working with an expert. Rigor asks that students and teachers be reflective and work in a close setting where learning connects to student interest and the real world.
