The Family Connection Program is now set up with an ACT/SAT test preparation program.  The program is FREE!!!.  If you have any questions, please see your counselor in the counseling department.

PRINCETON REVIEW – National Testing Day

Join your peers across the country to see how you would score on the SAT or ACT.  Take a FREE full-length practice test under actual testing conditions and get comfortable with the exam’s format.  Test will be given at:  Horizon High School on Wednesday, March 17th from 3-7PM.   Scores will be reviewed at:  Horizon High School on Tuesday, March 23rd from 6-7PM.

COLLEGE OPEN HOUSES & PROGRAMS:

 

AMERICAN LEGION BOYS STATE OF ARIZONA – Deadline 4/1/10 (*)

HS Male Junior - Boys State is a leadership action program where high school male juniors participate in a practical governmental course designed to develop a working knowledge of the structure of state and local government.  Two juniors are nominated by their school; they must demonstrate self-discipline, have interest in the democratic process and is outstanding in their academic and social activities.  This session will be held on the campus of NAU from June 6th – June 12th.  There is a registration fee of $75.00 (for delegates only).  Nomination forms are available in the counseling office and should be returned to counseling by March 5th, for the nomination committee to vote upon.

 

 

ASU – BIODESIGN INSTITUTE AT ASU’S SUMMER HIGH SCHOOL INTERNSHIP – Deadline 3/31/10

HS Junior – Students that will be seniors during the 2010-2011 school year and are interested in science can apply for this internship program.  This program runs for 6 weeks (June 7-July 19).  Those selected are expected to volunteer a minimum of 15-20 hours per week.  Interns will receive a monetary stipend for travel expenses.  The application requires a letter of recommendation from a teacher.  Applications are available online @ http://www.biodesign.asu.edu/education/k-12.

 

ASU – CESAR E. CHAVEZ LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE – Deadline 3/26/10 (*)

HS Sophs and Jrs - CCLI is a one-week leadership program from June 6-12, 2010.  Selected students participate in workshops, where they explore higher education, develop leadership skills and participate in a community service program while living on ASU campus.  Approximately 60 students will be selected.  Students can apply online @ www.asu.edu/ccli.

 

ASU – CHINESE LANGUAGE CAMP – STARTALK – Deadline 3/31/10

This is a 15 day residential program provides students in grades 10-12 a great opportunity to explore and expand their knowledge in Chinese language and culture through a highly structure theme-based curriculum.  During the program, students will receive Chinese language instruction and participate in activities in cultural classes.  After the program students will commit to taking Chinese language classes.  Generous scholarships are available for those who take Chinese classes at ASU.  Date of camp is June 13-27 at ASU Tempe Campus.  There is a $100 registration fee.  http://asu.edu/clas/silc/startalk

 

ASU – INSPIRING ASPIRING DESIGNERS WORKSHOP FOR TEENS

On Saturday, March 27th from 12:30-4:30pM at the ASU Skysong Complex high school juniors and seniors can explore practical and creative aspects of a career in industrial design.  Pre-registration is required.  Call 480-874-4641.  Cost is $30.00 to attend.

 

ASU – ONLINE AND EXTENDED CAMPUS – SUMMER READING PROGRAMS

BROWN LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

BLI helps students make a positive difference in the world.  Students develop and apply the knowledge, skills and attitudes associated with effective and socially responsible leadership.  There are 12 different leadership courses for the summer of 2010 to sign up for.  Students live on campus and may participate in on-campus co-curricular activities.  www.brown.edu/summer

 

CAMBRIDGE INSTITUTE OF CHINA BUSINESS RESEARCH – SUMMER 2010 STUDENT ESSAY COMPETITION

The CICBR provides a serve that bridges the cultural and communication gap between the US and China.   Their blend of business and cultural exposure, education and case studies, opportunity scouting and networking introduces student to flourishing businesses throughout China.    The program enhances students practical knowledge and find potential for career advancement.   Applicants must be at least 14 years of age and must be a resident of the US.  Prizes range from $500-$2,000.  Deadline is 5/1/10.  http://www.cicbr.org/

 

FLINN SCHOLARS PROGRAM 2011

Representatives from the Flinn Foundation Scholarship Program LLC, ASU, NAU and U of A will present information on the exceptional education opportunities for outstanding high school students in AZ.  The Phoenix meeting will be held on Monday March 29 or on Tuesday, March 30 from 6:30PM-8:30PM at the AZ Science Center, Irene P. On 3/10/10 at 6PM there will be a “Transition Fair” at PVCC.  The purpose of this parent and student information night is to provide info on various transition services for students with disabilities and their families.

UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA - SUMMER ACCOUNTING CAREERS AWARENESS PROGRAM – Deadline 4/15/09
