The district adopted program for Reading and Language is called Harcourt Storytown. It is an integrated Language Arts Program. The reading program contains quality literature books that integrate spelling, grammar, phonics and other language components. Many writing assignments are integrated with the reading, social studies, science, and math lessons. The writing process is taught using Steps to Writing by Sopris West. |

Math skills are based on the Arizona Standards and are taught using the hands-on method in conjunction with our district Math Harcourt program. Students learn to apply math skills in real world situations, such as using graphs. Emphasis is placed on learning addition and subtraction facts automatically. Students are taught how to use problem solving strategies as well as measuring, time, double-digit addition and subtraction, word problems, patterning, fractions and probability. They are introduced to multiplication and division. |

The core of our Social Studies curriculum is taught using the key units including geography, understanding their community and government. It is supplemented with Character Education and a Scholastic multicultural book set. The units are often integrated with other subject areas. We study the events leading up to the Revolutionary War and travels with Marco Polo. |
