Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) Exam

At North Canyon we believe the best preparation for the AIMS exams is regular daily attendance and completing the accompanying coursework.

How can my student(s) prepare for these exams? Students can supplement their preparation in the following ways. First, the Arizona Department of Education has a website: http://www.ade.az.gov. This site contains information under the Http://www.ade.state.az.us/AIMS/students.asp. AIMS Information Center link, which includes the AIMS HS Released Items. The released items contain previous tests that help students practice for these important tests. Additionally, students can download a student guide on the same site and bring it with them to AIMS tutoring.

Tutoring - Tutoring for the AIMS exams will be available for students.  We will offer tutoring by highly qualified and appropriately certified teachers in reading, writing, and math starting the week of August 31st running through the week of October 26th. Students with IEPs and Section 504 Plans - Students with IEPs or 504 Plans shall not be required to achieve passing scores on competency tests in order to graduate from high school unless a passing score on a competency test is specifically required in a specific academic area by the student's IEP or 504 Plan. AIMS Reciprocity - Students transferring to NCHS from out-of-state will not have to take the AIMS exam if they have already passed that state's assessment test. SAT-ACT TESTS 2009-2010

PLAN Test
Saturday, 10/24/09 at NCHS - Lecture Hall – 7:15 AM!
This pre-ACT test should be taken by all university-bound sophomores and all advanced freshmen.  The composite score on this test is a good indicator of future test success and target areas for future study.  Sign-ups begin 10/5 in the Bookstore and end 10/16.  COST $20.00

PSAT Test
Saturday, 10/17/09 at NCHS - Cafeteria - 8:00 AM!
This pre-SAT test should be taken by all university-bound juniors.  This test is only given once a year and is the qualifying round for National Merit status scholarships in the junior year.  Sign-ups begin 9/28 in the Bookstore and end 10/9.  COST $20.00  NCHS will be testing all Sophomores at no charge.
