Sophomore, Carly Hildyard was selected to represent not only North Canyon but the state of Arizona for Arizona's candidate for National Association of Student Council's region 6 representative.
Junior, Sondell Cross was selected from the 29 student leaders from across Arizona who applied to run for AASC state officer.

Family Connection by Naviance is a web-based program that allows students, parents, teachers, and counselors to store information, locate and investigate colleges, find scholarships, careers and much more. Students and parents will enter Naviance through an area called Family Connection. Some of the features are listed below:
- Building a resume, completing and updating throughout high school
- IGP's - Individualized Graduation Plans - 4 year academic planning
- Do What You Are - Myers-Briggs Personality Inventory - a good predictor of career satisfaction and success
- Learning Style Inventory - discover your best way to learn
- Registration for classes (will begin spring of 2009)
- Courses and recommendations by teachers
- Research colleges - huge data base
- College applications and recommendations
- College visit sign-ups
- Scholarships
- Bulletins and emails for events, dates, and information from counseling
- Test scores
- On-line surveys
- Managing time lines and deadlines for decision making
- Collection of data

NCHS Recycling Program-North Canyon now has a "paper retriever" bin located in the front of the school. Abitibi will now pay North Canyon to recycle all paper items. They accept newspapers, magazines, catalogs, mail, envelopes and phonebooks. They do not accept cardboard.
NCHS is one of Newsweek's top public high schools in USA
North Canyon High School is one of two PVUSD high schools ranked in the top 1000 of Newsweek's list of top 1200 public high schools in the nation. NCHS also ranked 3rd in the state of Arizona.

Freshman Academy
The NCHS Freshman Academy is an academic support opportunity provided by the Freshmen First mentors. Requirements for participation include lack of academic success at middle school, a sincere desire to improve academically, and regular attendance on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 7:15-7:40 AM. Students will receive mentor support, individualized tutoring, and lessons in study skills, test-taking skills, and goal setting. The cost to register is $5.00.
