Freshman Fundamentals

Craig Lahlum, Assistant Principal, ext. 4207
Lee Moline, English Teacher, ext. 4323

The transition between middle and high school is the most stressful time for most students and parents. Student accountability and responsibility become more important than ever during this stage of their academic and cogntive development. To help students during this transitional period, North Canyon High School has created a number of programs that will provide mentorship for our incoming students. These programs are designed to help bolster a student's skills and self-esteem in and out of the classroom.

We highly encourage parental support, involvement, and communication during these transition times to ensure your child's success in high school.

Rattler S.T.A.R.S

Rattler S.T.A.R.S. stands for Students Taking Action to Reach Success. This program is specifically designed for incoming freshmen to provide a successful transition to the high school experience. Its purpose is to provide both academic and social skills that will help augment the freshman experience. Continued support and tutoring will be provided by our Freshman Academy.

Freshman First

The Freshman First program is designed as a mentorship program that helps provide assistance for all freshman students.  Directed by Ms. Leeta Moline, the program solicits the assistance of 125 upperclassmen NCHS students who serve as a mentor for freshmen in need to assistance academically and socially. For more information, e-mail Ms. Moline or call the Freshmen First Office at (623) 780-4323.

Freshman Academy

The NCHS Freshman Academy is an academic support opportunity provided by the Freshmen First mentors.  Requirements for participation include but not limited to lack of academic success, a sincere desire to improve academically, and regular attendance on Wednesday and Friday mornings.  Students will receive mentor support, individualized tutoring, and lessons in study skills, test-taking techniques, and goalsetting.  The cost to register is $5.00.  For more information, call the Freshmen First Office at (623) 780-4323.
