Welcome to the Special Areas home page.  We Special Area teachers work closely with each other and with the classroom teachers.  We follow a standards based curriculum as determined by the Arizona Department of Education and the Paradise Valley School District. We are proud of our Special Area Program and our students.  Please let us know if we can be of assistance to you in enhancing your child's progress at Liberty School.

To maintain a quality program, we would like to present our guidelines.

Grading System

Effort grades are given in the Special Area program. Every student begins with a (+) for a high level of effort. It is up to the student to maintain their excellent grade. Their effort grade is evaluated by their behavior, attitude, their ability to dress appropriately for class, and their participation level in each class. The grading scale indicates the number of infractions allowed before their grade drops.

Effort Key

0-1
+
High level of effort
2-3
a
sufficient effort
4 or more
_
minimal/no effort

A variety of activities have been planned for our students in all Special Area classes.  Students are responsible for wearing appropriate clothing including closed toe, soft soled shoes and shorts, loose pants, or skirts with shorts underneath.  In Art, it is suggested that you provide a large old shirt or smock to wear while using paint or glue.

If a student is ill or injured, a note from home will excuse the student from active participation in PE and movement in Music.  Any illness or injury requiring that a student be out for more than three days will require a doctor's excuse.

Music students in the third through sixth grade are required to have a recorder. The recorder is an inexpensive flute-like instrument used for teaching music reading and instrumental skills. Students in third grade and all new Liberty students will receive their first recorder compliments of the Liberty PTA. They will be distributed in music class. Replacement recorders are $5 and may be purchased through the music department. Students need to clearly label their recorder and case with their first and last name in permanent marker. Recorders should be kept in the student's backpack and brought to their scheduled music class. Students who come to class without their recorder will be considered unprepared for class and their grade will be affected.

Bringing valuables to class is discouraged, and the responsibility for loss of personal possessions resides with each student.

We look forward to a super year!  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at 602-449-7779 and our voicemail extensions as follows:
