HOMELESS LIAISON

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.     High School Diploma or GED

2.     Minimum of 24 hours of college credit

3.     Computer skills

4.     Exceptional communication skills

5.     Exceptional organizational skills

6.     Problem solving strategies

7.     Ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1.     Background in counseling/social work

REPORTS TO:  Title Programs Coordinator

 

SUPERVISES:  N/A

 

JOB GOAL:  The local Homeless Liaison serves as one of the primary contacts between homeless families and school staff, district personnel, shelter works and other service providers.  The liaison coordinates services to ensure that the homeless children and youth within the Paradise Valley Unified School District enroll in school and have the opportunity to succeed academically.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.     Ensure that homeless children and youth are identified by school personnel and through coordination activities with other entities and agencies.

2.     Ensure that homeless students enroll in and have equal opportunity to succeed in school.

3.     Communicate the educational rights of homeless students to parents and guardians of homeless children and youths.

4.     Assist homeless children and youth with such activities as enrolling in school and accessing school services, obtaining immunization or medical records and transportation.

5.     Work with school staff and administration to provide training, educational support and family resources.

6.     Keep accurate records of the homeless population district wide.

8.     Other job related duties as assigned.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Nine, ten, or twelve-month year.  Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the BoardÕs policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
