CUSTODIAN III 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Extensive custodial knowledge, preferably as Custodian II.
  3. Ability to supervise Custodian I and II and contracted custodial services.
  4. General maintenance knowledge required (i.e. plumbing, electrical, and painting).
  5. Have the ability to climb ladders and lift and carry 50 pounds periodically.

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator and Supervisor of Custodial and Grounds

SUPERVISES: Custodian I and Custodian II (as applies)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Establish and maintain good rapport with students, staff, and community.
  2. Communicate effectively with in-house or contracted custodial services.
  3. Work with principal/head administrator in complete management of custodial care of school and/or site.
  4. Coordinate daily maintenance routine of facilities (may require lifting up to 50 pounds or climbing ladder to change light bulb.)
  5. Schedule and assign custodial personnel or contracted services.
  6. Monitor all mechanical, electrical, and security systems.
  7. Request repairs to equipment and building as necessary. Complete and submit inspection documentation as required (i.e. work orders).
  8. Order, receive, and stock required cleaning supplies.
  9. Coordinate and supervise facility preparation for extra curricular and community activities with contracted custodial services as required.
  10. Perform minor maintenance repairs as needed.
  11. Maintain vacation/leave schedule for custodial staff.
  12. Do simple paperwork as required by job.
  13. Inspect school daily for vandalism, maintenance, and needed repair. Complete and submit inspection documentation as required (i.e. work orders).
  14. Perform periodic inventory of all custodial equipment as well as minor repairs.
  15. Reply to written and verbal request to District and handle all associated paperwork.
  16. Assist with lunch programs – set up and clean up.
  17. Coordinate, supervise, and participate in summer cleaning including sanding gym floors, stripping tile floors, shampooing, etc.
  18. Assume full responsibility for custodial staff and school, including monthly night checks on custodians.
  19. Maintain a working knowledge of guidelines regarding the storage and use of chemicals. Train building custodial staff on these guidelines.
  20. Order supplies from distribution center and maintains budget records for these orders.
  21. Coordinate activities of contractors or volunteers doing work on campus with Community Education, Facilities, PTA’s, PTO’s, and others.
  22. Other job-related duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine, ten, or twelve-month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.

SKILL TESTS REQUIRED: Demonstrate ability to operate/maintain standard cleaning and buffing equipment; ability to perform routine building maintenance; and knowledge of classified evaluation system.
