CUSTODIAN V - HEAD CUSTODIAN HIGH SCHOOL

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Extensive custodial knowledge, preferably as Custodian III or IV.
  3. Ability to supervise Custodian I, II, III, IV, and/or contracted custodial services.
  4. General maintenance knowledge required (i.e. plumbing, electrical, and painting).
  5. Ability to work flexible and varied shifts.
  6. Knowledge of proper usage, storage, and handling of chemicals and equipment.
  7. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds periodically, operate custodial equipment, and climb 6-foot ladders.

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator / Supervisor

SUPERVISES: Assistant Head Custodian and all custodial crews.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Establish and maintain a good rapport, with students, staff, and community members.
  2. Communicate effectively with in-house or contracted service employees.
  3. Perform the scheduling, supervision, and maintenance of the assigned high school custodial crew or contracted services employees.
  4. Perform regular maintenance program tasks.
  5. Inspect school daily for vandalism, maintenance, and needed repairs. Complete and submit inspection documentation as required (i.e. work orders).
  6. Possess an understanding of and ability to monitor all electrical, mechanical, fire and security systems.
  7. Prepare required personnel reports and staff evaluations.
  8. Order, receive, and stock required cleaning supplies and equipment.
  9. Perform periodic inventory and maintenance of all custodian equipment.
  10. Initiate and submit work orders for maintenance and repair.
  11. Reply to written and verbal requests to District and handle all associated paperwork.
  12. Coordinate, supervise, and participate in facility preparation for extra curricular and community activities.
  13. Coordinate activities of contractor or volunteers doing work on campus with Community Education, Facilities, PTA’s, PTO’s, and others.
  14. Coordinate, supervise, and participate in summer cleaning including sanding gym floors, stripping tile floors, shampooing, etc.
  15. Maintain a working knowledge of guidelines regarding the storage and use of chemicals. Train building custodial staff on these guidelines.
  16. Maintain calendar of events for extra curricular and community activities.
  17. Other job-related duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine, ten, or twelve-month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board. 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.

SKILL TESTS REQUIRED: Demonstrate ability to operate/maintain standard cleaning and buffing equipment; ability to perform routine building maintenance; knowledge of classified evaluation system.
