CAMPUS ASSISTANT

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Knowledge of, experience with, and ability to deal with special education students.
  3. Ability to run basic office equipment.
  4. Must be physically able to maintain control of students.

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator

JOB GOAL: To facilitate/enhance the delivery of services to students in a variety of support service areas. These areas may include noon duty coverage, A.M./P.M. duty coverage, classroom assistance, and crosswalk coverage. Other areas may be added based on campus needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Establish and maintain good rapport with students, staff, and community.

2. Bus duty as assigned (e.g., assisting driver and students with adaptive equipment and monitoring physical welfare of students).

3. Accommodate the needs of students at the point of service identified in the student's educational plan, but does not apply to self-contained or one-on-one duties.

4. Supervise playground and lunchroom and protect safety of children at all times.

5. Operate and maintain audio-visual, office equipment, and district supplied equipment when needed.

6. Perform clerical tasks as instructed by teacher.

7. Set up and maintain learning centers, prepare training materials and maintain supplies as instructed by teacher.

8. Instruct individual students using instruction objectives and lessons developed by the teacher and reinforce lessons with small groups of students.

9. Assist with supplementary work for students (written and oral) and supervise independent study.

10 Administer classroom assessment instruments (spelling test, etc.); and score objective tests and written papers and keep appropriate record for teachers.

11. Assist the teacher in observing, recording, and charting behavior.

12. Implement behavioral management strategies - using the same emphasis and techniques as the teacher.

13. Assist the teacher with crisis problems and discipline.

14. Attend IEP meetings at the request of the teacher or administrative personnel.

15. Carry out simple discipline procedures and refer discipline problems to the teacher, principal, or assistant principal.

16. Assist children in crossing intersections on the way to and from school at assigned times.

17. Enforce state laws regarding school zones and report license numbers of vehicles violating safety regulations.

18. Report student safety infractions.

19. Place speed signs and report maintenance of same when required.

20. Other job-related duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine, ten, or twelve-month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
