BRAILLE TECHNICIAN SPECIALIST III

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Clerical (typing) skills and word processing skills.
  3. Previous experience with vision impaired children.
  4. Experience with Brailling and transcribing.
  5. Literary Braille Certification required from Library of Congress.
  6. Experience with Braille Graphics.

GRADE: 16

REPORTS TO: Vision Resource Teacher

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Establish and maintain good rapport with students, staff and community.
  2. Work with students individually or in small groups in both regular and special classes.
  3. Prepare enlarged materials/worksheets for students.
  4. Translate, read, and write in Literary Braille.
  5. Prepare materials using computer software or Braillewriter.
  6. Produce Braille Graphic materials.
  7. Responsible for various office tasks such as: answering phone, keeping track of Braille/large print books and other inventory, preparing requisitions for annual orders, and providing technical support for copier machine.
  8. Work with students in the regular education or special education classroom.
  9. Implement established classroom management program.
  10. Communicate with regular education staff regarding student needs/progress.
  11. Assist teacher in maintaining necessary records.
  12. Demonstrate positive attitude toward job responsibilities and individual student handicaps.
  13. Other job-related duties as assigned.

 TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine, ten, or twelve-month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
