Communicable Diseases
The school nurses' function is to keep the school environment healthy and safe. Students with communicable diseases may be excluded from school while they are contagious. Decisions regarding placement or exclusion will be made using the best medical knowledge available and with consultation with public health personnel, school officials, the student's physician and/or the parent/guardians of the student. More information on specific communicable diseases can be found in the linked disease letters.
H1N1
The main symptoms of Novel H1N1/seasonal flu are fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue and diarrhea/vomiting in some cases. If your student experiences several of these symptoms, please keep them home and contact your doctor. Students need to remain home fever-free (temperature less than 100 degrees) without the use of Tylenol, Motrin, or other fever-reducing medications for 24 hours.
