| 2nd Grade Teachers | The second
graders at Grayhawk Elementary are off to a stunning start. To Foster curiosity in our
students we have been traveling through the world visiting the Americas, Ancient China,
Ancient Greece, and Ancient India. Also, along our journey we stopped in on Modern Day
Japan. Beside many creative and hands-on geography and history activities, we celebrated
each culture with a food tasting day. For yet an additional extension of our learning, we
went on a field trip to the Chinese Cultural Center as a major highlight to our Ancient
China study. The second grade teachers at Grayhawk believe that effective instruction means that from the very first day of school, students must be actively engaged. At Grayhawk we promote this idea by encouraging students to ask questions, make observations, organize a collection, count, measure, discuss and also to seek out answers. The Science content for stimulating such thinking and learning was focused around the Water Cycle, Seasons, Magnets, and Simple Machines. RECOMMENDED READING: What Your 2nd Grader Needs to Know, E.D.
