Grayhawk - a Core Knowledge® School
Grayhawk Elementary School in the Paradise Valley Unified School District has been a Core Knowledge school since its inception in 1998.  The Core Knowledge Sequence is the result of a lengthy research process taken on by the Core Knowledge Foundation.  The Sequence was put together by a group of educational professionals who consulted with academic organizations and studied different countries with successful educational systems.  Students in grades Kindergarten through Grade 6th are exposed to integrated studies in world and American geography and history, science, visual arts, music, math an of the language arts.

Core Knowledge® Curriculum - distinguished by the “Four S’s”:

bullet

Specificity – By clearly specifying a core of knowledge, children are guaranteed equal access to that knowledge.  The Sequence contains specific information of what each child should know.

bullet

Shared – All children, regardless of where they come from, will have access to a shared body of knowledge that will help them become a part of a literate society.

bullet

Solid – There is a body of basic knowledge that all children should know.

bullet

Sequenced – Research has proven that children attach new knowledge to what they already know.

January of 2005 - Grayhawk recognized as an Official Core Knowledge School and National Visitation Site.

This honor means that our school is a model for other schools that are beginning to implement this curriculum.  Our teachers, thanks to their hard work, will be consulted by other educators throughout the country for their expertise in using Core Knowledge.
Grayhawk is one of two schools in the state of Arizona to achieve this highly acclaimed status.

As Our Principal Says:
