Each month we’ll review a part of this program. This month: expectations and step one’s. At the beginning of each class teachers clearly state behavior expectations. If a student chooses not to follow these expectations, then the teacher privately reminds him or her that they are choosing step one. The student then moves to a quiet area of the class to think about his or her actions. This does not mean that he or she is in trouble; it is just time to think. Teachers, and even the principal, have put themselves on step one to demonstrate that it is not a bad experience. After a few moments the teacher privately asks, “how did you choose step one?” and “do you need more time on step one?” When a student feels ready, he or she rejoins the class. Step one should not make a child feel embarrassed. The intention is to teach self-reflection. Next month - concerns, points and Making your day. The Year of Technology at Echo Mountain When your children enter the workforce technology skills will be as important as reading, writing and math. Therefore, we’ve made technology a priority. Each classroom teacher received a new laptop computer. These will allow teachers to plan interactive lessons with exciting online content. Classes will also be able to video chat with students in other schools. Teachers will be able to make web pages to post assignments and even videos to help with homework. Students will also have opportunities take reading comprehension tests online with Accelerated reader. They can also take computer based math tests. And as always, parents don’t need to wait for report cards. If you want to know your child’s grades, look them up online! Completar su Día Nosotros utilizamos el Programa de Ciudadanía Completar su día, y cada mes repasaremos parte de este programa. Este mes: expectativas y primer paso. Al comienzo de cada clase los maestros establecerán claramente las expectativas de comportamiento. Si un alumno elije no seguir estas expectativas, entonces el maestro le recuerda privadamente que está eligiendo el primer paso. El alumno luego se retira a un área tranquila de la clase para reflexionar sobre sus acciones. Esto no significa que él/ella está en problemas; es simplemente tiempo para pensar. Los maestros, e incluso la directora, se han colocado en el primer paso para demostrar que no es una mala experiencia. El Año de la Tecnología en Echo Mountain Cuando sus hijos entren al mercado laboral, las destrezas tecnológicas serán tan importantes como la lectura, la escritura y las matemáticas. Es por eso que hemos hecho que la tecnología sea una prioridad. Cada maestro de clase ha recibido una computadora portátil, que le permitirá planear lecciones interactivas más interesantes con contenido en línea. Las clases también podrán conversar en video con estudiantes de otras escuelas. Los maestros podrán hacer sus páginas Web para colocar las tareas y hasta colocar videos para ayudar con éstas. Los estudiantes también tendrán la oportunidad de tomar pruebas de comprensión de lectura en línea con “Accelerated Reader”. También podrán tomar pruebas de matemáticas en la computadora. Y como siempre los padres no necesitarán esperar a recibir el boletín de calificaciones para ver las calificaciones de sus hijos, ahora ¡pueden verlas en línea!
