GREAT BOOKS SUMMER PROGRAM

The Great Books Summer Program is open to all students who will be entering the grades 6-12 in the fall. Anyone who applies must also have the nomination of a counselor, teacher, or principal to be considered for acceptance. There are several sessions scheduled at each of the three sites: Stanford University, College of William & Mary, and Amherst College. Students may choose a 1-week or 2-week session.

The program includes reading and discussing selections from Shakespeare, Dante, Jefferson, Homer, Hemingway, Sherwood Anderson, Jamaica Kincaid, George Orwell, Virginia Woolf, Tolstoy, Lincoln, and others. There will also be electives in theater, music, writing, and art where students can intepret and express the ideas found in the literature selections.
