summer opportunities
SUMMER SERVICE PROGRAMSVISIONS SERVICE ADVENTURES SUMMER 2008 VISIONS offers summer programs for high school students between the ages of 14 and 18 years old to experience another culture and participate in a service project at the same time. Programs are available in the U.S. and abroad in English speaking settings or language immersion sites. Approximately half of the time during the program is spent in a service project designed to improve conditions for the people living in the site. Free time is filled with many different activities depending on the location of the program. Living arrangements also vary by program site. By the end of the program, volunteers will have complete 65 to 95 hours of service and seen the beautiful scenery and wildlife surrounding their site. They will have participated in a variety of activities that includes rock climbing, wilderness backpacking, hiking, snorkeling, scuba diving, sea kayaking, rafting, horseback riding, and whale watching. Programs this year are available in Alaska, Montana, Mississippi, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Vietnam, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Peru, and Guadeloupe.
